October is here and the US film releases have been a bit onthe weak side. There have been some really good ones like WHIP IT, DrewBarrymore and Ellen Page roller derby movie…but please taking up valuablescreen space movies like CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, COUPLE’S RETREAT,ZOMBIELAND. If you are a thinking person, here are a few films that are aroundfor your enjoyment and thought:

COCOBEFORE CHANEL, Audrey Tatou in the title role, withBenoit Poelvoorde and Emmanuelle Devos, directed by Anne Fontaine. In selectcities opening wider during the month.

 

THETUNNEL starring Heino Ferch, Sebastien Koch, Alexandra Maria Lara,based on a true story of the desperate attempts to escape East Berlin in the‘60’s. Still running strong on EUROCINEMA VIDEO ON DEMAND look for it on yourcable system’s video on demand guide.

 

INTIMATEENEMIES, had its US debut at the Charlotte Film Festival in lateSeptember,  Benoit Magimel and AlbertDupontel star, directed by Florent Emilio Siri. A drama following a French platoonduring Algeria's war of independence.

 

THEMAID (LA NANA), starring Catalina Saaverdra, directedby Sebastien Silva. A drama centered on a maid trying to hold on to herposition after having served a family for 23 years.

 

THEWEDDING SONG, Tunisia (French), starring LizzieBrochere and Olympe Borval, directed by Karin Albou. The Nazi occupation ofTunisia strains the bonds of friendship between a Muslim woman and her Jewishfriend who are both preparing for their marriages.

 

BRIGHTSTAR a Jane Campion movie starring Abbie Cornish about theBritish poet John Keats and the woman who loved him.

 

Also, in October on EUROCINEMA ON DEMAND, you will see BERLIN CALLING, starring PaulKalbrenner, Corrine Harfouch, Rita Lengyel. DJ Ickarus (Kalkbrenner) tours clubsaround the globe with his manager/girlfriend (Lengyel). On the eve of theirlargest album release he is admitted to a psychiatric clinic after overdosingat a gig. GREAT MUSIC, beautiful people, don’t miss it.
